Upholstery cleaning is more constrained than carpet cleaning: the fabric is thinner, the construction is more delicate and there is padding underneath that must not become saturated.
That is why the process starts with identification and testing rather than with a machine.
Identification and testing
The cleaning code label, fibre content and construction are checked, and colourfastness is tested in a concealed area. This determines whether a water-based or solvent-based method is used.
Existing wear, previous treatments and any structural damage are noted before work begins so expectations are realistic.
Dry soil removal and pre-treatment
Crevices, seams and beneath cushions are vacuumed, and pet hair is lifted where present. Pre-treatment is then applied at the appropriate strength and given time to work on body oils, food residue and general soiling.
Arms, headrests and the front edge of seat cushions receive the most attention, as they carry the heaviest contact soiling.
Extraction, grooming and drying
Moisture is applied and recovered under control, keeping padding as dry as practical. The fabric is then groomed to reset the nap and dried with airflow.
Where fabric protector has been requested, it is applied after cleaning and allowed to cure before the furniture is used again.
